Rebe and I met on the first day of the seventh grade. I remember she wore penny loafers with pennies in them and an awesome green outfit that I was jealous of. We hit it off right away and were incredibly close friends until I moved away for college. Rebe has always been a character; afraid of ice and obsessed with elephants, she's as eccentric and fun as they come. Right before I left the Hudson Valley, Rebe met Matt, and I had a feeling that they were going to be together for the long run. I felt good about leaving the area knowing she had an awesome boyfriend. When I was asked to come photograph her small legal wedding, I was thrilled. Not only did I get to rekindle a friendship with someone I've missed, but I was introduced to Rebe and Matt's newer friends who I adored instantly.
This wedding was different from any I've been a part of before. Matt is in the Air Force and will be deployed to Afghanistan next month to aid in our country's exit from the war. Because he's leaving, they decided to have a small legal wedding. Next year, when Matt is home, they will have a larger celebration. My favorite aspect of the wedding (besides a few surprises that came up!) was the fact that they decided to get married outside in February. Matt and his groomsmen shoveled a gigantic path through a park, to the water front where the ceremony took place. On the bank of the Wallkill River, their friends and family stood, gathered around them as they were wed. My biggest challenge was definitely the cold! My fingers were numb through the ceremony, but thankfully it didn't hinder my shooting. Take a look at how fun and spirited Matt & Rebe's day was!
I loved Rebe's blue shoes.
Rebe has been wearing this necklace for as long as I remember. It made perfect sense that she would wear it on her wedding day.
Jade was masterful in getting Rebe ready and out of the house!
I remember these paintings hanging in Rebe's old bedroom.
Love this typography made by Alida.
Check out the G. I. Joe's hanging from the vine! Matt says they protect the kitchen.
I love this scene on their fridge; so poignant.
I honestly didn't expect to see Picasso when I came - he's 19 and still the diva he's always been.
One of my favorites.
"Can you tell I painted the railing?" says Rebe.
Our friend Alida was the Maid Of Honor. One of her duties was holding the champagne during photos.
I am obsessed with these two photos of Rebe and Alida.
Rebe was saying mean things to make Alida crack up. It is a perfect example of them and their friendship.
Matt waits for Rebe.
Matt's face as Rebe approached.
Alida walked Rebe down the path and gave her away.
Surprise #1 of the day: Rebe forgot the rings!
Rebe looks skeptical after Matt said he knew she'd forget the rings. Luckily it was expected that she'd be forgetful and no one minded.
Right after they were married, Rebe's mom Michelle gave her this as a gift.
I felt bad making Rebe walk through the snow, but she had fun.
My favorite photo from the day. Rebe is so gorgeous!
She insisted on a photo with this sign.
The path Matt and his friends shoveled!
The after party was held at Matt's parent's house down the street from the park.
Jade and her husband Adam.
Michelle and her husband Juan.
Jerra, Danielle and Dan saved the day when Rebe forgot the wedding cake!
Baby Westly says cheers too.
Alida and Rebe shocked that Jon said something mean.
